July: It's Still Busy Around Here

In addition to the business office preparing for the audit and the construction crew working on the stadium, you might be surprised at all of the activities, planning, and preparation that go on during the month of July. Our new administration hires have joined the team and are digging into preparation for Back to School. David Quesada is our new Director of Technology and Media Services, coming to us from Berrien Springs Public Schools, and Matt Dodson is our new DeWitt High School Principal, coming to us from Bath Community Schools. We have several more new hires and staff to welcome back in the fall.

It has been great to hear the DHS Drumline practicing at their camp this week. I can hear them playing from my office, and it always puts a smile on my face and pride in my heart. It was also amazing to see (on the DeWitt Band's Facebook Page) all of the venues across Europe where our DHS Band entertained tourists and locals. In addition, more and more student-athletes have been showing up around the tennis courts and green spaces, and new enrollments have been coming into the Central Office.

The DeWitt Community Partnership for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee has been meeting and preparing a #BeTheChangeChallenge and Social Hour Event, as well as working to establish meeting dates and literature for the new year. See the details below if you are interested:

We have finalized the district 22-23 calendar and school start/end times, planned opening week professional development, and are continuing to work on our strategic plan, focusing on the implementation, safety objectives, public relations, and communication. We are excited to have our new mission, vision, goals, and values guiding our work for this year and years to come.

We have had several additional staff trained in Youth Mental Health First Aid (designed to teach participants how to help students who are experiencing a mental health or other challenges) and have several more scheduled to be trained next month.

As August is just around the corner, it is only going to get busier with these and other activities. I can't wait to have all of the staff and students back as we focus on a new year, new theme, and through a culture of excellence, grow our success. We look forward to welcoming you all back in a month! Look for our Welcome Back letter with open house information in mid-August.
